Job Task Analysis Tool

Welcome to the Job Task Analysis Tool.
This tool allows you to identify the level of different skills required for a given job based on the tasks described.

Consider a job that you want to make skill inferences about, and provide a comprehensive list of the job tasks or responsibilities for that job.

The tool uses a deep neural network language model to break down the description into five key skill dimensions—Analytical, Social, Fundamental, Managerial, and Mechanical—based on the O*NET framework. Use these insights to guide job design, training, or further research.

Analysis Results

The tool has analyzed the job tasks you entered along five major skill dimensions (based on the O*NET framework). Each dimension is provided as a Z-score:

  • Analytical Skills: Problem-solving, logical reasoning, and information analysis.
  • Social Skills: Interpersonal communication and effective teamwork.
  • Fundamental Skills: Basic literacy, numeracy, and foundational competencies.
  • Managerial Skills: Leadership, organization, and resource management.
  • Mechanical Skills: Technical proficiency and working with tools or machinery.

A Z-score of 0 indicates an average emphasis relative to other jobs. Positive values mean a higher emphasis, while negative values indicate a lower emphasis on that skill.

How to Use the Job Task Analysis Tool

This tool is designed for Industrial–Organizational psychologists and related professionals who wish to analyze job roles based on task descriptions. Please follow these steps to ensure the best results:

  1. Input a Detailed Description:
    • In the text area, provide a clear and specific description of the job tasks or responsibilities.
    • Avoid vague statements; include concrete details such as daily duties, responsibilities, and any key processes.
  2. Review Sample Tasks (Optional):
    • If you are unsure about the level of detail needed, click one of the 'Sample Job Tasks' buttons to see an example.
    • Remember, the samples are guides and may not perfectly match your job context.
  3. Analyze Your Input:
    • After entering your description, wait until the model finishes loading (the progress bar will indicate this and the Analyze button will appear).
    • Click the Analyze button to run the analysis.
  4. Review the Results:
    • The tool provides a Z-score for each of the five skill dimensions (Analytical, Social, Fundamental, Managerial, and Mechanical).
    • A Z-score of 0 represents average emphasis. Positive scores indicate a higher emphasis, and negative scores a lower emphasis.
    • Please ensure you understand these scores before applying them in job design or research decisions.

Note: The accuracy of the analysis depends on the clarity and detail of your input. If your description is too brief or ambiguous, the results may not fully reflect the job's skill demands.

About the Methodology

This application leverages advanced neural network transformer models to convert your job task description into a semantic representation. The process is then mapped onto the O*NET framework to compute Z-scores for the following five key skill dimensions:

  • Analytical: Evaluates problem-solving, logical reasoning, and information analysis.
  • Social: Assesses interpersonal communication and teamwork.
  • Fundamental: Reviews basic literacy, numeracy, and foundational competencies.
  • Managerial: Measures leadership, organizational abilities, and resource management.
  • Mechanical: Rates technical proficiency and competence with tools or machinery.

A Z-score of 0 represents an average emphasis compared to other jobs. Positive scores denote a higher-than-average focus, while negative scores suggest a lower focus in that particular area.
